I make accidental and improvised music on a variety of simple instruments as well as field recordings and sound experiments using natural forces to create sound. I also take a lot of lo-fi photographs using digital toy cameras. My ideas and inspiration come mainly from Nature, Japanese aesthetics, and the writings and music of John Cage. I consider my music Accidental Minimalism, using minimal source material arranged accidentally or by happenstance. Since 2003 I have been dealing with the effects of Meniere's disease, an inner ear disorder which has drastically changed how I hear and thus create.
My music going forward seems to be about simplicity and naturalness; paring things down to their essence, not overthinking or overworking ideas. Ultimately, I'd like my work to sound inevitable - like it just happened, and could have done so without me.
