golden

Work on the 3rd series of accidental psaltery loops is moving right along. I've made 14 pieces in as many days and hope to finish up recording by Thanksgiving. I'll be releasing a cd of excerpts entitled "golden" early next year and possibly some of the longer loops as stand alone pieces. I'm also considering ways to make the entire series available if I feel it's warranted.

This excerpt is from last night's piece. I felt particularly crappy and was certain I wouldn't get anything worthwhile done, yet these loops went together quite nicely: a good indication this music is not my own doing and is not dependent on me being inspired.

The Great Stalacpipe Organ in Luray caverns

Commonly called the world's largest musical instrument, the stalactite organ in Luray caverns is amazing. Hydraulic cylinders strike various stalactites to create eerily beautiful music. I can't believe people couldn't shut up for 2 minutes to listen to this. My camera had died so no picture to accompany it.

you alone

Yesterday was my birthday and I began a new series of accidental psaltery pieces. It is the only music I will be making for the rest of this year.

My wife is the ultimate beachcomber and in many ways this music seems like a big, empty beach stretching out before me. I hope I can walk through it with as much grace and wonder as she does a real beach. Right here and now I am dedicating this work to her. If it is anywhere near as beautiful as she is, I know it will make the world a better place. She has.
