trace evidence

i found this drone quietly self-oscillating in my effects chain long after the source tape had run out and i had moved on to other things. it was like a little reminder of where i'd been.

convergence

This week's track features 2 melodica loops of different lengths naturally phasing in wide open space. This technique was developed in response to Steve Reich's phase pieces. But where his phases are precise and metrical, mine are organic and unpredictable. Simply by choosing loops of different lengths, I am able to create music that always changes from parts that never do. I use this technique in almost all the accidental music I make. The photograph was taken with my ipod at Batsto Village.
